How We Did SFO-LAS-SFO below SGD$3k
I know this is like some MAJOR Throwback and I belong to one of those who throwback the entire year for one holiday
& this is ultra delayed coz I did not write anything about my trip to San Francisco when I came back earlier this January
Well, writing requires a special kind of mood to be in & I wasn’t able to find that mood for the last 5 months…
Now that I’m planning for another SFO trip in September, I’m keen to reminisce again!
Due to popular demand, I’m going to show you How I planned a 2 week trip to SFO with a road trip to Vegas in between and the whole thing cost less than SGD3,000!
***SGD3k is not inclusive of flight and accommodation in SFO
The bulk of the monies goes to car rental from HERTZ San Francisco Airport
(do note that they have a separate terminal for car rentals, so you need to take the rail over to collect ur car)
We rented the cheapest category and chose HERTZ coz of an affliation with Singapore Airlines
Go to www.hertz.com/krisflyer to make the online vehicle reservation and earn up to 500 krisflyer miles and get a 10% discount over the vehicle rental as well!
Car Rental: SGD$793.24
Lesson learnt: the trusty Ford Fiesta took all our luggages but we are unable to go to Lake Tahoe as planned coz this vehicle is not meant to take the mountainous and snowy roads terrain – a SUV is recommended – however, this car brought us to VEGAS and back!
Touristy thing to do in SFO
Plenty of day time tours, but we took the night tour (which is creepier)
Book online in advance to avoid disappointment – they really do get sold out real quick
2 tickets to 3-hour night tour: SGD109.53
Bring raincoat and brolly!
Coz the toilets are not sheltered!
see! we really drove to vegas and back!
That’s 8 hours each way!!
MR R drove the most while I slept the most
4 nights stay at the Treasure Island Hotel & Casino Las Vegas:
YES! I KID YOU NOT!
The trick: Book early & plan it on WEEKDAYS
Prices will multiple when it comes to Friday check-ins and weekends
Take a Day trip to Grand Canyon and stop by Hoover Dam otw!
Parking per entry: USD10 or SGD14.50
See part of the Colorado River
There’s many parts of the Grand Canyon you can go to
The last time I was there I went to the southern ridges and this time there was a new touristy attraction:
The SkyWalk (West Rim)
Unfortunately, you’re not allowed to bring mobile phones and cameras onto the SkyWalk but this image grab from google should give you an idea what it’s like:
& we also bought this image from their professional photography on the SkyWalk
They charged about SGD30 each photo
– blah –
2 Tickets to SkyWalk Entrance: SGD232.84
- 1 Legacy
- 1 Meal
- 1 Skywalk
- 1 Fees Impact
- 1 Fees Fuel
Book your tickets in advance!
Self Drive to Papillon Terminal located at the Grand Canyon West-1 Heliport, County Road 7, Peach Springs, Arizona
There is plenty of complimentary parking at the terminal
This location happens to be right outside the SkyWalk Entrance!
There’s different packages like whether you want to include a meal or also head down to the river for a boat ride
We took the Over The Edge – Heli/Boat/Legacy No Meal Package
2 tickets to Helicopter Tour + Colorado River Boat Ride: SGD644.38
It’s stated in the site that if you wanna be in the co-pilot seat, there’s an extra charge of USD50
Well, I obviously didn’t pay the surcharge and got to be in the co-pilot seat!
The heli can take a total of 6 guests excluding the pilot
but just 5 in our case coz the other group behind is a family of 3
They don’t look as happening as me and Mr R!
In the whole group of people, my weight is considered to be the median weight
which means you can’t be too heavy like Mr R
or too light like the babe behind
SO I GOT THE FRONT SEAT!!!!
– WOO HOO! –
I doubt you can see much from the back!
Typically, the heli will descend down the canyon to the river side for you to board the boat
There was another package where you can picnic by the side
Which I thought was not a big deal~ =p
The boat ride was also….. very normal
can be avoided – LOL –
Heading back to Vegas…
There’s just so much to do in Vegas minus the casinos
I recommend you sign up as a member on Vegas.com
and buy all the tickets for the attractions and shows!
The Ferris Wheel in Vegas has to be themed as HIGH ROLLER
Very appropriate definitely!
2 Tickets to the High Roller: SGD92.06
Aboard the High Roller, you can see the Musical Fountain Show from Bellagio & avoid the pushing crowd
You can also see the entire skyline of Vegas!
The CSI Experience in MGM Grand was CRAP
Seriously, don’t even bother!
2 Tickets to the
pointless Experience: SGD91.37
We watch Penn & Teller Magic shows on TV & now we get to catch them LIVE!
Plus a lucky photo with Teller!
– check out the stampede behind –
2 tickets to Penn & Teller Live in Vegas: SGD345.34
